ChatGPT ads are live in Europe
ChatGPT ads are live in Europe including Denmark. See which of your competitors are advertising on ChatGPT.

Straightforward interfaces make navigation and actions more intuitive, reducing the learning curve for new users.
ChatGPT Ads went live in 31 European markets on 18 August 2026, Denmark included. Ads reach Free and Go users only, with over 1 billion monthly users where roughly 50 million users pay for subscriptions, meaning over 850 million active users rely on the free tier or ad-supported entry options..
Why ChatGPT Ads Matters Right Now
ChatGPT advertising went from zero markets to 31 European countries in six months. The United States opened in February 2026. Canada, Australia and New Zealand in March. The United Kingdom, Japan, South Korea, Mexico and Brazil in May. Europe in August.
For expansions in just 6 months and OpenAI has openly announced that ten of thousands marketers has already advertised on ChatGPT.
Now, many marketers in Europe are asking "what is next, how much should we spend?" whereas, competitors in their industry have already gotten started and are pulling ahead.
4 Things About ChatGPT Ads
Most coverage this week repeats the press release. Here are the four mechanics that change how you plan.
Fact 1: 5 of ChatGPT's 7 plans are ad-free
Ads in ChatGPT reach signed-in Free and Go users. That is it.
ChatGPT plan | Shows ads | Who is on it |
|---|---|---|
Free | Yes | Broad consumer and early-career audience |
Go | Yes | Price-sensitive individual subscribers |
Plus | No | Heavy individual users and practitioners |
Pro | No | Power users and technical decision makers |
Business | No | Company-bought team seats |
Enterprise | No | Large organisations, where budget authority sits |
Education | No | Students and institutions |
In short: ChatGPT ads reach Free and Go users only, while Plus, Pro, Business, Enterprise and Education stay ad-free. In B2B, the person signing the contract is usually on a company-bought plan. Your sponsored card never reaches them. The recommendation inside the answer still does.
Fact 2: There are zero keywords to bid on
ChatGPT ads targeting runs on conversation topic, not search terms. Relevance comes from the topic of the current chat, past chats and past ad interactions. Advertisers submit context hints describing when their product fits.
So the buying moment looks nothing like a search query. "How do I stop losing customers after the first order" contains no category, no brand and no commercial keyword. It is still a buying moment.
Creative written as search copy will underperform here. The ad sits beneath a helpful answer and inherits its register.
Fact 3: Europe runs on opt-in, the US runs on opt-out
OpenAI chose explicit consent as its GDPR legal basis rather than legitimate interest, and users can withdraw it at any time. The United States runs an opt-out model.
Practical consequence: a meaningful share of your European audience will decline personalisation, so contextual matching on the live conversation carries more of your delivery than it would in the US. Plan for topic relevance to do the work.
Fact 4: There is no self-serve route in Europe yet
ChatGPT Ads Manager, the self-serve platform, opened in the US in May 2026. Europe gets it later this summer.
Until then, buying runs through the OpenAI Ads Solutions team, agency partners and technology partners. Which favours large advertisers for exactly as long as the queue lasts.
No European pricing has been published either. Any confident European CPC figure circulating right now is extrapolated from US data.
The Organic-Paid Split: The Half No Budget Reaches
ChatGPT now has two layers, and they run on different economics.
The paid layer is purchasable. Bid, appear, stop paying, disappear.
The recommendation inside the answer is not purchasable at any price. OpenAI states plainly that ads do not influence the answers ChatGPT gives. That mention is produced by how the model reads your brand across the sources it trusts, which is the work of generative engine optimisation.
Here is why that matters commercially. If ChatGPT names three competitors in the answer and your logo sits in the card underneath it, your ad is arguing with a recommendation you did not win. The answer is read first.
Ad budgets can be matched by anyone with a bigger budget. Being the brand ChatGPT names cannot.
How to See Your Competitors' ChatGPT Ads
There is no public ChatGPT ad library. Meta has one. Google has one. OpenAI does not, which means competitor ads on ChatGPT are invisible unless something is watching the answers themselves.
KIME tracks which competitors are actively advertising on ChatGPT, on the exact prompts you already track, across the United States, the United Kingdom, Japan and Europe.
Four dimensions, and each answers a question you cannot get anywhere else:
What KIME tracks | What you see | The question it answers |
|---|---|---|
Prompts targeted | Which of your tracked prompts return a sponsored card, and which competitor holds it | Which buying moments are my competitors paying for? |
Countries | Ad density for the same category across the US, UK, Japan and European markets | How crowded does my category get, and how long do I have? |
Chats they appear in | How often a competitor's ad surfaces, and the share of chats carrying any ad | Is this category already saturated or still open? |
Products advertised | The creative itself, so you can read the product and claim being pushed | What are they selling, and how are they positioning it? |
In short, KIME shows which competitors advertise on ChatGPT, on which prompts, in which countries, in how many chats, and with which products. That is competitor ad intelligence for a channel that publishes no ad library of its own.
The older markets are the most useful part. Because KIME has tracked ChatGPT ads in the US, the UK and Japan since before the European launch, those categories work as a preview. What sponsored density looks like in a mature US category is a fair indication of where a Danish category is heading, and roughly how many months it has before it gets there.
And because ad tracking sits on the same prompt set as organic tracking, you can read both layers together: whether the answer above the sponsored card names you, a competitor, or nobody at all.
Your Quick Start Checklist
Map every competitor already appearing in sponsored cards on your category prompts.
Log what those cards claim, and which topics nobody has moved on yet.
Capture your organic share of voice and citations as a dated baseline.
Compare your category's ad density against the same category in the US and UK.
Build a prompt set from real buyer language, not keyword volume.
Write educational creative, not discount creative.
Re-read the competitive map at day 30 and see who entered.
Steps 1 to 4 cost nothing and cannot be done later. Steps 5 to 7 are the campaign.
Why Waiting Costs You
Two things compound while you deliberate.
The auction gets more expensive. European advertisers are entering now. Early pricing in a new channel never survives contact with competition. Whatever ChatGPT advertising costs in September, it costs more in January.
The baseline expires. A clean reading of your category, before sponsored cards are dense in it, is available for a few weeks. After that every measurement sits against a noisier backdrop, and you are comparing to a picture you never took.
The spend decision can wait. The observation cannot.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does ChatGPT have ads? Yes. ChatGPT began showing ads in the United States in February 2026 and expanded to 31 European markets on 18 August 2026. Ads appear as sponsored cards below the answer, for signed-in users on the Free and Go plans only.
Are ChatGPT ads live in Denmark? Yes. OpenAI named Denmark alongside Sweden, Norway, Germany, France, Spain, Italy, the Netherlands and Austria in its 18 August 2026 announcement covering 31 European markets. Sponsored cards appear for signed-in Danish Free and Go users.
How do you run ads on ChatGPT? In Europe, through the OpenAI Ads Solutions team, agency partners or technology partners. There is no self-serve option yet. ChatGPT Ads Manager, which opened in the US in May 2026, is expected in Europe later this summer.
How much do ChatGPT ads cost? OpenAI has not published European pricing and no reliable European benchmark exists. Reported US figures put CPC bids in the low single-digit dollars and CPMs in the tens of dollars depending on category. Treat any European estimate as extrapolation.
Do ChatGPT ads change the answers ChatGPT gives? No. OpenAI states that ads do not influence the answers ChatGPT gives, and that responses stay optimised for what is most helpful. Sponsored cards sit below the answer, clearly labelled and visually separated from it.
Which ChatGPT plans show ads? Free and Go show sponsored cards. Plus, Pro, Business, Enterprise and Education stay ad-free. In B2B categories this means many senior buyers will never see a ChatGPT ad, while the organic recommendation still reaches them.
How are ChatGPT ads targeted? By conversation topic rather than keywords. Relevance comes from the current chat, past chats and past ad interactions, with advertisers supplying context hints. In Europe, personalisation requires explicit consent that users can withdraw at any time.
Does advertising on ChatGPT improve organic AI visibility? No. Because ads do not influence answers, paid spend cannot change how ChatGPT describes your brand. Organic AI visibility improves through generative engine optimisation, meaning the sources, entity data and third-party coverage the model reads.
Can I see my competitors' ads on ChatGPT? Yes, through KIME. It tracks which competitors are actively advertising on ChatGPT across the United States, the United Kingdom, Japan and Europe, showing which of your tracked prompts return their sponsored cards, in how many chats they appear, and which products they advertise.
Is there a ChatGPT ad library? OpenAI does not publish a public ChatGPT ad library the way Meta and Google do. To see competitor ads on ChatGPT you need a tool that monitors the answers themselves. KIME tracks sponsored cards against your own prompt set across four market regions.
How do I find out which prompts my competitors are advertising on? Track the prompts your buyers actually ask, then monitor which of them return a sponsored card and which advertiser holds it. KIME does this across the US, UK, Japan and Europe, and pairs each result with the organic answer above the card.
